My name is Max Goodwin. I was born and raised in Kansas City, Mo., where I was taught to cheer for the Missouri Tigers, but eventually I was convinced that I was meant to be a Jayhawk.
I am a senior at the University of Kansas where I am majoring in Journalism. For the school newspaper, the University Daily Kansan, I cover track and field, cross country, and women’s basketball. I follow the Kansas men’s basketball team from a distance as well and I often played against senior guard Travis Releford in middle school basketball, I will never reveal the scores of some of those games because they are still embarrassing ten years later.
I like to write about almost any sport as well as play them and other things that interest me are history, rap music, and anything going on around my community (Kansas City).
I am starting this blog as a class project and I hope to learn how to cover a specific beat thoroughly and in-depth. My beat here is obviously women’s sports at KU, which interested me because of the time I have spent covering women’s sports for the UDK. I remember rarely ever watching women’s sports before that and changing the channel anytime they were on television.
Seeing some of these women train and compete up close has given me an admiration for how dedicated they are to their sport despite a lack of recognition that often exists. With this blog I hope to give them a small piece of the recognition that they deserve.
